Donated $130 to MRDS. I'm sorry it's not more and will work harder. |
I haven't been working much on Beads of Love lately but give me a shout if you need funds and I will squeeze out the time and ideas for new items.

Donation to Metta Cats
Metta Cattery recently sent their shelter dogs to the vet for heartworm tests and 9 of the dogs tested positive. One of them, Ace, had to have a blood transfusion as he was anaemic and the donor was his sheltermate, Zee-Zee. Treatment is arduous and expensive so Beads of Love is donating 12 bookmarks to them for sale to their supporters. The bookmarks are exclusive to MettaCats only and there will be no repeats. $30 per bookmark. They have not posted on their Facebook page yet, but if you would like to help them out, their Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/mettacats
DONATION TO OASIS 2ND CHANCE ANIMAL SHELTER
Thanks to all your wonderful support, we managed to make a profit of $150 in September 2012 which I've donated to Oasis 2nd Chance Animal Shelter. They house about 120 dogs there and is run entirely by volunteers. I really admire and respect those who work so hard for something they believe in.
BOOKMARKS FOR METTACATS
I started making bookmarks for MettaCats when they appealed for help for a lovely Dalmatian, Max, who had been abandoned by his owners because he had a stroke. That first lot of 15 bookmarks sold out within a day. Since then, I've been donating exclusive bookmarks to MettaCats about once every 2 months and they always sell out as soon as they're published. MettaCats have such awesome volunteers! :-)
This latest lot of 8 bookmarks at $25 each did just as well. All ready and packed to go.
MILK DONATION TO GENTLE PAWS
Our profits for the month of August went to Gentle Paws and I am happy to say that we managed to make a profit of $80. Gentle Paws requested that I buy milk for the dogs and this is what I did last Saturday :-)
I wonder how they're going to keep the milk in a "cool dry place" though as the shelter is hot!
Oasis 2nd Chance Animal Shelter participating in President's Challenge Volunteer Drive
I think everyone would have heard about President's Challenge. It was established in 2000 by our last President, SR Nathan, to raise funds for charity. This year, President Tony Tan has expanded it to include a Volunteer Drive in order to promote volunteerism.
Oasis 2nd Chance Animal Shelter is collaborating with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) in the President's Challenge Volunteer Drive and are having a recruitment drive cum Open House on Sunday, 23 September 2012. In conjunction with this event, they are organising a flea market and have invited Beads of Love to participate :-)
We will be donating some items to them as well as dedicating all profits from September sales to Oasis 2nd Chance Animal Shelter. You have always been generous and supportive of my cause and I ask that you continue to do so. I shall be working hard to craft more items so please buy more! :-)

GENTLE PAWS FUNDRAISER
GENTLE PAWS FLEA MART
Saturday & Sunday
18 & 19 August 2012
Bonsai Garden at Ericsson Pet Farm
16 Pasir Ris Farmway 2
Singapore 519316.
(when you see Ericsson Pet Farm, just keep going a bit more and you will see the Bonsai Garden on your left)

Gentle Paws is one of the many animal shelters at Pasir Ris Farmway. They house about 40 dogs (or more.... my figures aren't recent). Volunteers run the shelter with donations for rental, utilities, cleaning equipment, food and medical bills.
Doing work like this is hard, sometimes heartbreaking and often worrying because you don't know if you are going to be able to give the dogs food and shelter next month. The blow comes when your shelter is hit with a virus and you are left carrying phenomenal medical bills. This is what happened to Gentle Paws recently and they need to urgently raise $8,000 to cover the vet bills.
Beads of Love is donating some 80+ pairs of earrings to them for their flea mart. Do go and support and get some real good bargains. Beads of Love will also be donating our profits from the sale of items from this blogshop for the month of August to Gentle Paws, so please spread the word and let's try to raise as much as we can to help them.
These are pics of some of the earrings being donated for the flea mart. Recommended pricing is between $1-$3 per pair so it is a great bargain. ONLY available at the flea mart. As you know, I use only good quality materials and all crystals on the earrings are Swarovski. You're never gonna get them this cheap so do make a date with Gentle Paws this weekend :-)

Donation to Metta Cattery
I'm donating this necklace to Metta Cats to help them raise funds for the cats and dogs in their shelter. They've posted it on their Facebook page.
A large amethyst teardrop is complemented with a cascade of quartz rondelles. Amethyst rondelles decorate the chain and this 17" long necklace closes with a toggle clasp. All components and findings are gold-plated. It took me 4 hours to put this together and is a steal at $128. All proceeds from the sale of this necklace goes to Metta Cats.

Project for Metta Cats
MettaCats recently posted on their Facebook about the plight for Max, the Dalmatian. Max had a stroke and his family abandoned him. A group of volunteers took upon their shoulders the cost of his treatment. His treatment included surgery, TCM, accupuncture, massages and lots of TLC by people unknown to him. His recovery was remarkable! From being paralysed with stroke, he can now move his head and limbs and was discharged from hospital yesterday. His vet and hospital bills came up to nearly $4000, not counting his TCM and accupuncture, all of which were funded by many generous individuals, leaving a final bill of nearly $800 for which Metta Cats has appealed for funds.
Not being rich enough to make a dent in the debt, I decided to donate 15pcs of handcrafted bookmarks to Metta Cats for sale. The bookmarks are made with black agate semi-precious stones, cats eye hearts and a polymer clay paw charm which Ade customised for me.

Each bookmark is sold at $30 and the full amount goes to MettaCats. Here is MettaCats' Facebook link.

Donation of Food to Mdm Wong's Shelter
Thanks to your support, we have made a profit of $194 from 15 Jul to 31 Aug 2011. As MWS is not accepting cash donations for the moment, they have requested for food donation instead. The preferred brand is Natural's Gift, Chicken flavour. It's good to give them something they are used to eating so that there will be no tummy problems. I will be going to buy and delivering the food to them this Saturday, hopefully :-)

Bought and delivered 8 cartons of dog food to Mdm Wong Shelter today. She was very happy and grateful. It's very humbling to see a simple senior citizen taking on such a heavy burden. No complaints, just quietly doing and never too proud to accept whatever little help is offered her. Kudos to all who help the helpless and the voiceless.

ASD Adoption & Rescue Centre
The Adoption & Rescue Centre established by Action for Singapore Dogs Society has added a new block. This block houses boarding kennels and revenue generated from boarding is channelled towards running the shelter.
I've not been very creative lately and have been slow in making more jewellery. This is because I've been busy with Woofy's Choice, but now that things are more stable, I hope to make more jewellery soon :-)
I've donated profits of $240 to the Adoption & Rescue Centre and I'm very sure they will put it to good use :-)
Here's an email reply from Ricky of ASD. I'll post the e-receipt up once I have it :
"Thank you very much for your contribution and efforts ! As you know we have just taken over another block as the current block is already filled to capacity, and the costs are just going crazy ! So thank you once again and may I say, the jewellery you crafted is beautiful, and more so because it comes from the heart.
Many Thanks

BEGINNINGS
Someone asked me how and why I started this blog.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I have 3 dogs and I'd have cats too if only my dogs weren't so hostile towards them. I've always loved craft but I would not consider myself a very creative person. A friend from church had this lovely rosary beads made of crystal and I asked her where she got them. She told me she'd made them herself and I was intrigued. I googled and found some websites that taught me - theoretically - how to make a rosary. So off I went to Arab Street and got myself the makings of a rosary. It took me 5 hours to complete my first rosary. It wasn't very symmetrical and the loops weren't nicely rounded but I was very proud of it (and of myself too!) nevertheless.
About a year later, an animal shelter was appealing for funds and I wondered why do shelters always run out of funds? Why not do something that will bring in the funds on a regular basis? So, I started out with baby steps and a lot of feedback and advice from members of internet dog forums, and established a thread in a local dog forum to sell my creations. Meanwhile, it was always on the back of my mind to have a website so as to have a wider reach. A very nice girl I met on the forum, SG, helped me brainstorm and so here I am.
The sale of jewellery on the forum has contributed to private shelters like Doggie Rescue Shelter, Animal Lovers League, Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, Mutts & Mittens and Action for Singapore Dogs. I hope to be able to contribute in future to the Cat Welfare Society, K9Love and other shelters that need that little bit of extra help.
The amounts I have contributed are total profits from sales. I have to retain costs in order to sustain this project. The amounts contributed have been modest so far, but I hope to be able to attract more buyers who, like me, are animal lovers and want to do their bit to help. I try to keep prices affordable so that all who wish to help may do so according to their means.
Here are some receipts from the shelters I have contributed to.
