I've always liked things associated with the sea and I love combing beaches for little things like shells, pebbles and coral.  I have a collection of them from beaches from parts of the world, including a rock that looks exactly like a potato from a riverbank in Canada and a piece of coral from Mauritius that looks like a man.

Anyway, this isn't part of my collection but I couldn't not resist them when I saw them.  Green marquis-shaped mother of pearl with a polished shell gives this shepherd's hook bookmark a tranquil feel.

Donation to Metta Cats

Metta Cattery recently sent their shelter dogs to the vet for heartworm tests and 9 of the dogs tested positive.  One of them, Ace, had to have a blood transfusion as he was anaemic and the donor was his sheltermate, Zee-Zee.  Treatment is arduous and expensive so Beads of Love is donating 12 bookmarks to them for sale to their supporters.  The bookmarks are exclusive to MettaCats only and there will be no repeats.  $30 per bookmark.  They have not posted on their Facebook page yet, but if you would like to help them out, their Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/mettacats

This is something new and I was inspired by the memory of a ribbon bookmark I had as a child.  This pink 1-inch broad ribbon is complemented by a Swarovski glass pearl and dye-cut wooden charm.  I've made the ribbon into a loop so that if you're outside in the train or bus reading your book, you can loop the bookmark around your wrist and not lose it.

I remember having a ribbon bookmark when I was a child and I loved it to bits.  I could not resist the pretty ribbons during my last bead shopping trip so I thought I'd give this a try and see how it turns out.

This broad (1-inch) pink polka dots on navy ribbon has a butterfly charm, pink fire agate, freshwater pearl and a pink frosted glass bead.  It's about 13 inches long so you can use it even if your book is quite large, or fold it in half like I did for a smaller book :-)

An antique-y looking shepherd's hook bookmark with Chinese cloissone heart and glass beads.  The faceted teardrop is AB coated and sheens in different shades, as you can see from the pictures.

Same but Different

My friend Eileen has an office Christmas gift exchange to do and she has ordered 20 bookmarks.  They're the same.  But different.  Not one of the 20 is identical so each person will have something uniquely handmade this Christmas :-)

I was reading an article in an old issue of National Geographic about turtles and there was a picture of one crunching on corals.  That was what I had in mind when I crafted this bookmark with red and white coral chips and a turtle charm.

I wanted to make something in black and found this black star bead which is coated with a rubbery material. The prototype of all black beads was too dark so I lightened it with silvery beads and a bright fuschia bead.

Made a couple of bookmarks with a flowery theme.  I just love these large retro-looking flower beads.  I haven't many of them.  I think this is the last piece left.  In lime green with a purple howlite rondelle.
